What is AnnMarie's Law? Suicide Prevention - Havana High School - Guidance Office
AnnMarie's Law requires the Illinois State Board of Education and local school boards to create policies ensuring that students receive age-appropriate lessons about youth suicide and prevention.

“You Matter” is showing students that “we” stand with them through any pressures, external or internal, that they may have.
That they are not alone in whatever fight they are going through. But, mostly that "It’s OK to Not be OK."
It's OK to reach out for help, advocate for yourself, use appropriate coping skills, and build relationships and rely on others.
Students need to understand that surrounding themselves with healthy relationships that are supportive of who you are as an individual is imperative to being a healthy self.

Home - Erin's Law

What is Erin's Law?

Erin’s Law is named after childhood sexual assault survivor, author, speaker and activist Erin Merryn, who is the founder and President of Erin’s Law, which is registered with the State of Illinois and the IRS as a 501 (c)(4) non-profit social welfare organization.

After Erin introduced the legislation in her home state of Illinois, the bill was named “Erin’s Law” after her by legislators and it has caught on nationwide. Illinois is the first state by law to mandate child sexual abuse prevention.

“Erin’s Law” requires that all public schools in each state implement a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse program which teaches:

  • Students in grades preK – 12th grade, age-appropriate techniques to recognize child sexual abuse and tell a trusted adult
  • School personnel all about child sexual abuse
  • Parents & guardians the warning signs of child sexual abuse, plus needed assistance, referral or resource information to support sexually abused children and their families

National Bullying Prevention Month at Whitney Young – BEACON

October is National Bully Prevention Month. This is a campaign founded in 2006 by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center.

At the high school level, we focus on raising awareness about bullying prevention and increase student understanding of how to prevent bullying. We will be providing more education on bully prevention by having South Beloit High School students participating in lessons and discussions throughout the week.

Topics covered will include: bullying, togetherness, forgiveness, befriending others, how bullying affects others, being a bystander, and leadership.

It is encouraged to have discussions with your child(ren) about bullying and the impact that it can have on them as well as their peers.
